Stephano Chang
MD | PhD (Neuroscience) | PGY6 | BSc
Dr. Stephano Chang is completing his final year of neurosurgical residency at the University of British Columbia, with a special interest in movement disorders, pain management, epilepsy, and electrophysiology. During his residency, he completed a PhD in the neuromodulation of motor control after spinal cord injury at the University of Miami Project to Cure Paralysis through the UBC Clinician Investigator Program. There, he helped develop a large animal model of deep brain stimulation for gait ignition and augmentation and was a Co-Investigator on several related grants, including an on-going pilot study to target these locomotor circuits in patients with gait freezing. He has won numerous awards and honours for his research, and is currently working on expanding these methods to study other brain and spinal cord circuits, including oculomotor function and pain perception.
After residency, Dr. Chang plans to complete fellowship training in Stereotactic Functional and Epilepsy Neurosurgery at the University of California, Los Angeles.
